An attorney representing the family of a suburban Chicago, Ill., couple killed this month when a train derailment caused a bridge to collapse is calling for the National Transportation Safety Board to investigate.
In a news release, Robert Clifford says the NTSB should conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the derailment that killed Zorine and Burton Lindner.
The couple was in a car beneath the bridge, when it collapsed, sending hundreds of tons of coal and rail cars onto the street.
Clifford says the NTSB should lead the probe now headed by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Union Pacific Railroad Company. He says the NTSB has more investigative resources than the federal agency and it is more appropriate for an independent governmental agency to investigate than the railroad.
