A former Shreveport, La., police officer and his wife have pleaded not guilty to charges arising from an allegedly altered police report.
Ronald Small and his wife, Tracey, entered the plea Mar. 12 in state district court in Caddo Parish.
They were arrested in January on one count each of felony insurance fraud and injuring public records. Authorities allege that Tracey Small’s auto insurance had lapsed at the time of a Dec. 11, 2005, automobile accident, that she paid the premium soon after the accident and that the time on the accident report was changed to falsely indicate that she was covered when the accident happened.
Geico Insurance Co. contacted Shreveport police after becoming suspicious of inconsistencies during a claims investigation.
The Police Department reviewed the case then contacted state police and the Caddo district attorney’s office.
