Residents in Duson, La., can expect lower fire insurance premiums in the future.
The Louisiana Department of Insurance says the town’s fire protection rating has improved from a Class Five to a Class Four. That means that policyholders will have lower insurance rates.
For example, fire insurance for a home valued at $150,000 has been costing Duson residents about $1,316 a year. The insurance department says that cost is likely to drop to about $1,230 each year under the new rating.
Duson Town Clerk Harriet O’Brien said the department has repaired leaking fire hydrants and continues to upgrade its equipment, measures that are taken into consideration when the ratings are handed down.
