A construction worker died after a steel bar joist fell on his head at a shopping mall near West Virginia’s capital city.
Charleston police Lt. Kim West said 60-year-old Richard Patrick of Charleston suffered severe head injuries Monday when the strap holding a joist from a crane broke.
He was rushed to Charleston Area Medical Center’s General Hospital, but later died.
Patrick, who was employed by Agsten Construction, was wearing a hard hat.
He was a member of the crew renovating the Kanawha Mall just outside Charleston.
