Specialty Risk Services LLC, a third-party property-casualty third administrator for workers’ compensation and general liability claims, has appointed Timothy Barry to director of Special Investigative Unit and Fraud Management.
Insurance fraud is estimated to be an $80 billion business that impacts all segments of the economy. From individual consumers to larger insurance carriers, fraudulent claim activity has a negative effect on everyone’s bottom line. In his new role, Barry will oversee all state and carrier compliance activities for Specialty Risk Services (SRS) as well as the development of all fraud management tools and practices. He also will guide both internal and external fraud management training initiatives, with a special focus in workers’ compensation fraud.
Prior to joining SRS, Barry worked for The Hartford Financial Services Group’s Fraud Management department, where he worked closely with law enforcement agencies in numerous matters related to workers’ compensation fraud. He has a 24-year-career with the Connecticut State Police, most recently holding the rank of Colonel.
A graduate of the State University of New York, Barry holds a BA in Political Science. He earned his Juris Doctor from Western New England College School of Law and was admitted to the Connecticut Bar Association and the US District Court.
He will be based in SRS’ home office in Hartford, CT.
