New Hampshire residents affected by the severe storms and flooding in October now have less than 30 days to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for possible state and federal disaster assistance.
Nov. 27 marked the halfway point in the 60-day registration period. Registrations cannot be accepted after the Dec. 27 deadline.
Recovery officials urge residents and business owners with flood-related damage in the disaster-declared counties of Belknap, Cheshire, Grafton, Hillsborough, Merrimack and Sullivan to call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). The number for those with speech or hearing impairment is 1-800-462-7585. Lines are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week until further notice. Registration can also be done online at www.fema.gov.
“Registration keeps open the possibility of a wide range of assistance,” said federal coordinating officer Peter Martinasco. “We certainly do not want anyone who is eligible to miss out on the disaster aid that is available to them. Whether your insurance coverage comes up short or you have already made the necessary repairs to make your home safe, sanitary and livable, there are several conditions under which you may qualify for state and federal assistance – so don’t delay in registering.”
Low-interest disaster loans are also available through the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for uninsured or underinsured damages to homes, personal property and businesses. More information on SBA loans can be obtained by calling the SBA Customer Service Center at 1-800-659-2955.
“This has been a very trying time for many people affected by the storms and flooding. But we remain positive about the recovery and rebuilding process, and we are continuing to do everything possible to accommodate those affected,” said State Coordinating Officer Mike Poirier. “Part of the recuperation process is to get the right type of aid, and we hope to see that happen for those who register before the December 27 deadline.”
