USDA to Release Flood Aid for Vermont Dairy Farmers

Vermont dairy farmers hurt by flooding last spring are going to be getting disaster assistance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy says he’s helped clear up red tape that kept affected farmers from sharing $5 million in disaster aide appropriated by Congress.

The regulations to distribute the money were written only to include losses incurred last year.

But many of the farmers had to buy feed crops in the current calendar year to replace last year’s losses.

Spring floods last year wiped out many feed crops after they were planted.

Leahy says he’s glad common sense prevailed.
