Vermont fire investigators are still seeking the cause of a fire that destroyed the Putney building that once held the state’s oldest general store.
On Wednesday, police brought in a dog specially trained to detect substances that can be used to start fires.
The Putney General Store was being renovated when it was destroyed by the Sunday night fire. The fire came 18 months after an earlier fire. An adjoining building, which housed six people and a store, was heavily damaged.
Officials have said the cause of the fire was suspicious.
The Putney Historical Society bought the store after the last fire and was working to rebuild. The Rutland Herald says the society is planning to rebuild again.
