A smoky fire at an Atlantic City casino construction site was sparked by a welder removing the remnants of a large crane that collapsed during last weekend’s nor’easter.
No injuries were reported in the blaze at the Revel casino site, which began around 1:40 p.m. and was brought under control about an hour later, fire officials said.
Revel Entertainment CEO Kevin DeSanctis told The Press of Atlantic City that the welder was using a torch to dismantle the crane. The torch then ignited some insulation on the building’s roof, creating lots of smoke but not much fire.
“There was no real damage to anything,” DeSanctis said, adding that construction would not be interrupted.
