Authorities in eastern Pennsylvania are investigating the death of a man killed by earth-moving equipment on a construction site.
State police and the Lehigh County Coroner say 66-year-old Larry Winter of Moore Township was doing survey work at the Upper Macungie Township site when he was run over by an excavator at about 11 a.m. Friday. Coroner Scott Grim says Winter was pronounced dead at the scene.
State police at Fogelsville said he was directly behind the excavator _ a bulldozer-style tractor and a trailer known as a scraper _ and could not have been seen by the operator. An autopsy will be done Monday to determine the exact cause and manner of death. Officials with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating.
