Structural engineers will be reviewing renovations at a Connecticut mall after a second interior collapse in a month injured a woman and a 2-year-old boy.
Both Trumbull town officials and executives at the Westfield Trumbull shopping mall are investigating the latest incident on Saturday, when a 40- to 50-foot section of facade above a food court restaurant fell. A 61-year-old woman reported neck pain and a bleeding hand, while the boy suffered a small bump on his head.
About a month ago a 200-square-foot section of roof at the food court fell, but no one was injured. The food court has been closed pending the investigations, but the rest of the mall is open.
Crews have been working on a $45 million renovation project, including improvements around the food court.
