Virginia fire officials say it may be two weeks before wildfires in Rockingham County are fully contained.
Fire officials tell WHSV-TV the fires that have burned hundreds of acres were 45 percent contained Sunday.
Fire officials expect the fires won’t be fully contained until March 15. Smoke from large logs and stumps may still be visible for several more days.
U.S. Forest Service Officer Tom Ledbetter says low humidity and high winds caused the fires that started on Feb. 19 to move faster than normal.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency has authorized the use of federal funds to help fight the fires.
