Last week’s tornado in western Pennsylvania caused about $4.5 million damage when it destroyed 30 homes and damaged about 60 others, officials stated.
The National Weather Service says the F2 tornado packed 120 mph winds as it cut a 300-yard-wide path of damage for several miles, mostly in Hempfield Township, about 25 miles east of Pittsburgh.
Westmoreland County public safety spokesman Dan Stevens says the incident probably won’t qualify for federal disaster aid because homeowners surveyed have insurance to cover the damage.
