Sandy Aid From FEMA in New Jersey Reaches Nearly $800M

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has approved nearly $800 million in disaster assistance for Superstorm Sandy survivors in New Jersey.

More than $300 million in housing assistance was approved for more than 52,000 people. FEMA says more than 40 apartments are occupied at Fort Monmouth work is under way to make 115 units available.

More than $42 million has been approved to help replace damaged property and to pay for costs not covered by insurance and other aid programs.

More than $129 million has gone to state and local governments to help remove debris and restore damaged roads, bridges and other infrastructure. The Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission received $11.2 million for emergency repairs to a wastewater treatment plant that serves 48 communities.
