Connecticut’s agriculture commissioner is advising farmers to assess roof safety at farms after two barn roofs collapsed and a greenhouse was damaged by heavy snow dumped by the blizzard.
Two cows were killed and two others injured in a roof collapse at a Middlefield farm.
The destruction is reminiscent of roof collapses at farms due to back-to-back snowstorms in January 2011.
But Commissioner Steven Reviczky said Sunday that problems following the Friday-to-Saturday blizzard – severe as it was – were not as bad as two years ago when storm after storm brought snow and ice.
The National Weather Service is forecasting rain for Monday, which will add to the weight of snow on roofs.
