Prosecutors say a veteran Newark, N.J., police officer has been indicted on insurance fraud charges.
Johnathan Taylor faces charges of conspiracy, aggravated arson and insurance fraud in the indictment handed up by an Essex County grand jury. It was made public on Wednesday.
The 41-year-old Plainfield resident faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted on all counts.
Prosecutors claim Taylor had his sport utility vehicle set on fire in Newark in March 2012 and then filed a false insurance claim.
Taylor has served with the Newark police force for 17 years. It was not known Wednesday if he has retained an attorney, and a telephone number for Taylor could not be located.
