Connecticut plastic surgeons are meeting at the state Capitol complex in Hartford to urge passage of a bill addressing safety at medical spas.
They’re holding a Tuesday news conference to highlight the need for patient safety requirements at medical spas, which offer a range of surgical and non-surgical cosmetic services including liposuction and Botox injections.
A bill before the General Assembly would grant the public health commissioner regulatory oversight for these facilities and require a state-licensed physician be employed to oversee operations.
Anyone who violates the new regulations would have to pay a fine of up to $500 a day.
The news conference is organized by the Connecticut Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons.
