A Franklin County, Va., jury has found a woman negligent in a wreck that killed two Rocky Mount volunteer firefighters.
Media outlets report that the circuit court jury determined Wednesday that Teri Anne Valentine’s negligence led to the death of firefighter William “Danny” Altice. Jurors awarded about $9,900 to Altice’s family for funeral and burial expenses.
Valentine was driving a sport utility vehicle that collided with a fire truck in July 2010 as Altice and Rocky Mount Fire Chief Posey Dillon were responding to a call. Dillon also was killed in the wreck.
Altice’s daughter, Christie Altice-Weaver, sued both Valentine and the estate of Dillon, who was driving the fire truck. The jury cleared Dillon of any negligence.
