A broken water pipe at the Sherburne Memorial Library in Killington, Vt., has damaged historical items ruined $10,000 in electronics.
Water poured from a ceiling onto a wooden cabinet, damaging diaries, schoolbooks, a baptismal gown, a quilt, and other items dating from the early 19th century.
The Rutland Herald reports it’s the second time in less than two years that a broken water pipe has flooded the library, but the damage is more extensive this time.
Among the electronics destroyed was a pair of public-access computers, a printer and a bar-code scanner.
