The Diocese of Scranton has settled a lawsuit with the parents of a 6-year-old boy who was hurt by a falling tombstone at an eastern Pennsylvania cemetery.
A Luzerne County judge on Thursday approved a $225,000 settlement the diocese reached with parents Patrick and Linda Frame, whose son’s leg was broken when a tombstone toppled at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Freeland in July 2010.
The lawsuit stated that the Tunkhannock family was visiting a relative’s grave when the boy touched a nearby tombstone, causing it to fall on him.
The parents argued in their suit that the diocese had a responsibility to identify and repair unstable stones.
A spokesman for the diocese said he wasn’t immediately able to comment about the settlement.
