Maine Police to Join Nationwide Campaign Against Distracted Driving

A spokesman from the Department of Public Safety says Maine will join in nationwide efforts to reduce auto accidents that result when drivers don’t pay attention to the road.

Maine State Police and the Bureau of Highway Safety plan to unveil a four-year plan to combat distracted driving on Thursday at the Department of Labor in Augusta.

The principal from Winthrop High School and state troopers are scheduled to share their experiences with the issue.

Maine is joining the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in its efforts to cut down on distractions that are being redefined to include multitasking such as eating behind the wheel and talking with passengers.
