Bermuda-based Allied World Assurance Company, Ltd. (AWAC) announced that Frank N. D’Orazio has been named senior vice president and global manager of its General Casualty division. He is charged with setting and driving the overall strategic direction for AWAC’s buffer liability, excess casualty, and product recall insurance capabilities globally.
D’Orazio joined AWAC in June of 2003 as a vice president and manager of the company’s General Casualty operations in Bermuda, serving primarily large commercial North American clients. In January of 2005, he assumed management responsibility for AWAC’s European General Casualty operations in London and Dublin, catering mainly to European indigenous insureds. He was subsequently also charged with overseeing the creation of a U.S. General Casualty platform to deliver excess casualty solutions for North American middle market clients.
“In less than four years, Allied World has become a recognized market leader in the excess casualty marketplace on the strength of our people and the financial security that we offer to our clients,” D’Orazio noted. “In my new role, I look forward to further enhancing the value of the departments we have built in Bermuda, London and Dublin and assisting the creation of a U.S. platform that will feature offices in New York, Boston and two other major U.S. cities by the end of the year. Although AWAC’s General Casualty department serves a uniquely different client base in each of the geographic markets it operates in, I am certain the U.S. platform will succeed and benefit from the franchise value previously created in Bermuda and Europe.”
D’Orazio began his insurance career in 1990 at the Chubb Group of Insurance companies in their Westchester and New York City offices before joining the alternative market and insurance arm of American Re-Insurance in 1994. Immediately prior to joining AWAC, he served as that company’s regional vice president, resident in New York.
