Marsh’s London office announced the appointment of Martin Clark as its global Energy Practice Claims Leader. He will be based in London and will have overall responsibility for managing the claims of Marsh’s energy clients worldwide.
Clark previously had responsibility for Marsh’s UK Energy Claims team. He has worked in the insurance industry for over 25 years and joined Marsh in February from a global insurer, where he ran a claims department dealing with high value energy, property and construction claims.
Jim Pierce, Chairman of Marsh’s Global Energy Practice, commented: “The global energy sector has experienced an extremely tumultuous six months, which have underlined the necessity for thoroughly tested risk management strategies and complementary insurance programmes.
“The fundamental reason why companies buy insurance is to protect their balance sheets and income statements in the event of a loss. Under Martin’s expert guidance, the global Energy Practice Claims team will help ensure that our clients’ claims are resolved expeditiously, with minimum impact on their business.”
Clark added: “Due to the nature of its operations, the global energy sector produces some of the insurance industry’s largest and media-intensive claims. The often complex nature of the losses and the structure of the insurance provision concerned – typified by recent events in the Gulf of Mexico – require a truly global service delivery capability.
“The sole focus of Marsh’s claims team is to ensure that the insurance product purchased by our client is delivered. Marsh offers its global energy clients a comprehensive broking and claims service which, in the event of an incident, will work together seamlessly to ensure a return to ‘business as usual’ as quickly as possible.”
