Comfort Insurance, amotorhome insurance provider in the UK, has reported a serious rise in storm claims made by motorhome owners.
During October 2012 to January 2013 the insurance company only received 5 storm related claims.
However, between October 2013 and January 2014 Comfort Insurance has reported 42 claims to date – an 88 percent increase.
After the recent warning by the Met Office to be aware and prepared for the weather conditions, Comfort Insurance expect even more claims to be made by devastated motorhome owners.
According to Ben Cue, head of operations at Comfort Insurance, “With the immense storms that are hitting us we urge people to avoid travelling in their motorhomes or campervans altogether – not just to avoid damage to the motorhome, but to ensure the safety of people travelling.”
Storm damage has caused a surge in claims, especially with flood damaged vehicles. Repairs to seriously flood damaged motorhomes are often expensive and can result in totaled vehicles. Falling trees and damage from other objects has also been another issue.
Cue recommends keeping the vehicle in secure storage.
“Insurers are keen to know that owners are taking sensible precautions with the storm, although we do know this isn’t always possible with the unpredictable weather,” said Cue.
On June 28, 2012, Comfort Insurance recorded 15 hailstorm related claims resulting from a freak storm that affected the Leicestershire area. The hail was of sufficient size to cause considerable paint and panel damage to vehicles.
