A weekend fire that caused extensive damage to the Martin County, prosecutor’s office has been ruled an arson, Indiana State Police said Sunday.
The fire was discovered about 8:05 p.m. Saturday by two juveniles who spotted smoke billowing from the prosecutor’s office as they were walking nearby in the city about 90 miles southwest of Indianapolis, State Police said in a statement.
When they reached the building, the juveniles noticed that a side door window had been shattered and then saw a man inside the building, the statement said.
The pair ran across the street to notify the town marshal, but when he arrived he found the building on fire but no sign of the man the juveniles had seen inside the building.
The Shoals Fire Department put out the fire, which fire officials have ruled as an arson.
A message seeking additional information on the fire was left Sunday evening with the State Police’s post in Jasper.
