A woman accused of defrauding Macomb County, Mich. out of $230,000 in health care benefits after only a few days as a county worker has turned herself in to authorities.
Thirty-eight-year-old Jackie Youhanian was arraigned in district court on four felony charges of health care fraud. She was released on a $50,000 bond and awaits a preliminary examination Feb. 27.
Prosecutors say Youhanian, now of Kentucky, used her county-funded Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance for eight years to pay for care for ovarian cancer, multiple sclerosis and spinal problems.
Authorities say Blue Cross discovered the billings.
Her attorney says she had always intended to resolve the matter.
She faces up to five years in prison and a $50,000 fine if convicted.
