Federal and state officials say Illinois residents have received more than $8.4 million in disaster grants in just more than three weeks.
The grants help pay for temporary rental assistance, home repairs and other needs not covered by insurance or other programs. The Illinois disbursement was announced Friday by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Small Business Administration.
The agencies say that just more than 2,000 Illinois homeowners, renters and business owners have applied for disaster assistance and almost 1,600 inspections have been completed.
Most of the applications — 860 — have come from Alexander County. Applications also came from Franklin, Gallatin, Hardin, Jackson, Lawrence, Massac, Perry, Pope, Pulaski, Randolph, Saline, White and Williamson counties.
