The western South Dakota community of Lead (leed) is getting a $3.3 million fire hall.
Ground was broken late last week for the facility that is being built largely with the help of a U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development loan.
Officials say firefighters who serve a 60-square-mile area have outgrown their existing fire hall. They say the new building will enable the department to house all of its equipment under one roof, which will improve fire response times.
