BP has paid more than $1.5 million in claims arising from a multistate recall of incorrectly formulated gasoline that damaged some vehicles’ mechanical components.
The Times of Munster reports information BP sent to Indiana’s attorney general says the company had by Wednesday made payments totaling $1.52 million on 2,315 of the 15,965 claims it’s received.
BP recalled about 4.7 million gallons of gasoline last month distributed Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Wisconsin. The fuel caused problems that included hard starting, stalling and damage to critical vehicle components.
Indiana residents have filed 59 percent of the claims, while Illinois residents have filed 33 percent of them.
BP spokesman Scott Dean says the company will continue sending payments to people who’ve filed legitimate claims.
