Davenport, Iowa, officials say recent flooding cost the city more than $20,000, which is far less expensive than flooding costs earlier in the spring.
The Quad-City Times reports the flooding in early June cost the city $21,850. The city’s finance department says most of that cost was for overtime and rest was due to security and equipment.
The city racked up those costs because of flooding by the Mississippi River, which crested more than 1 foot above flood stage on June 5.
Flooding was more severe in April, and the cost reflected the higher river levels. The costs of protecting the city from flooding at that time totaled $287,548.
