Three people were hurt after a century-old wooden water tank plummeted 10 stories off a Chicago apartment building, crashing to the ground below.
Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford says one woman suffered “traumatic injuries” and is in critical condition after being hit by the tank in the city’s Lakeview neighborhood. A man is in serious condition after being hit with debris and a wall of water. Langford says a second woman who was leaving an adjacent building is in fair condition after being pelted with debris.
Langford says the water tank was full when it smashed to the ground around 10 a.m., landing in a parking lot about 100 feet below.
He says the tank was about eight feet wide and 12 feet high.
Chicago’s building department is investigating.
