A northern Illinois man has been sentenced to 6 months in jail for insurance fraud and forgery.
Kane County prosecutors say 53-year-old Juventino Guzman of Elgin falsely claimed he’d slipped, fallen and was injured at three businesses in Elgin and Carpentersville between Nov. 2011 and Jan. 2013 in an attempt to get insurance money.
Prosecutors say Guzman also received $219,000 in a 2009 settlement in which he submitted paperwork with a false name and Social Security number after lying about being injured at another Elgin business.
Guzman pleaded guilty to the crimes in November, and was sentenced on Friday. Prosecutors announced his sentence on Monday.
Guzman also must pay almost $250,000 in restitution. A Kane County judge says Guzman must repay the money within five years or face prison time.
