Cedar Falls, Iowa, police say they have arrested a local woman on suspicion of insurance fraud and filing a false police report.
Police say 44-year-old Michaela Marie Kotz was charged this week in an arrest warrant.
Investigators say that in July, Kotz reported her sport utility vehicle had been stolen from her home, and she later received an insurance payment of nearly $5,000.
But police say a follow-up investigation showed the vehicle had mechanical problems and that Kotz was storing it at a friend’s home in St. Ansgar.
Kotz has been released on bond. She could not be reached Saturday for comment.
