Sedgwick Claims Management Services Inc. and CIGNA Group Insurance announced the formation of an alliance to offer employers a new source for integrated disability management coverage.
The program will include complete administrative services for self-insured workers’ compensation and short-term disability programs linked with fully insured long-term disability protection.
With the new Integrated Disability Management solution, employers will be able to combine several beneficial features into a single program:
— The cost advantages of self-insurance for high frequency claims;
— The financial protection of full insurance for potentially severe LTD
claims;
— The convenience of an integrated administrative platform, consolidated reporting, and seamless transitions between the short-term and long-term stages of disability;
— Single intake of all claims;
— Common disability case management and duration guidelines;
— The option of seamless integration with Family and Medical Leave
administration (FMLA), pharmacy benefits, disease management and
other absence management services and resources. Sedgwick CMS, an independent third party administrator, will provide custom claims services for STD along with administration for other integrated services, with the exception of LTD. CIGNA will provide underwriting and administration for the LTD component. The program will use disability management protocols provided by Intracorp, the disability cost containment specialists who are part of the CIGNA family of companies.
“The CIGNA/Sedgwick CMS IDM program is particularly well suited for companies with 10,000 or more employees who need custom claims administration with the financial certainty of an insured LTD program,” said Jay Menario, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for CIGNA Group Insurance. “We are pleased to offer this progressive product to the marketplace.”
