The American Society of Safety Engineers’ (ASSE) announced the election of new officers to serve on its Board of Directors following the March 1-31 election by members. Donald S. Jones Sr.of Plaquemine, La., will serve as ASSE president for the 2006-07 year.
Jones is the Regulatory Expertise Leader and Global Expert Partner in Dow Chemical Company’s Global EHS Regulatory Affairs Center. He is also a recipient of ASSE’s top national award, the Edward Monsanto Queeny Safety Professional of the Year (SPY) award. Jones has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Louisiana State University and an MBA from Texas A&M and is an adjunct safety and health faculty member at Southeastern Louisiana University.
Michael W. Thompson, will serve as president-elect. Thompson is the training and development coordinator for the BP America Onshore Business Unit, Houston, and has 20 years of experience in safety, health and environmental (SH&E) positions and six years in manufacturing and general management. He has a B.S. in Safety Engineering from Texas A&M and is also a SPY award recipient.
Elected to the board and assuming their roles July 1, 2006, are Senior Vice President Warren K. Brown of Ohio; Vice President – Finance Darryl C. Hill of Michigan; Vice President – Practices & Standards James D. Smith of Florida; Vice President – Region II Patricia M. Ennis of Colorado; Vice President – Region IV Ronald G. Ross of Mississippi; Vice President – Region VI James H. Morris, III of Virginia; Vice President – Region VIII Steven F. Kane of New York.
The newly elected officers will be joining Vice President for the Council on Professional Affairs Thomas W. Lawrence, Jr., St. Louis, Mo.; Vice President for the Council on Professional Development Richard A. Pollock, Minneapolis, Minn; Vice President for Region I Terrie Norris, Calabasas, Calif.; Vice President for Region III Richard R. Bourlon, Dallas, Texas; Vice President for Region V C. Christopher Patton, St. Louis, Mo.; and, Vice President for Region VII Michael W. Hayslip, Dayton, Ohio, on the ASSE Board.
The new officers will be sworn in June 11 at the ASSE Professional Development Conference and Exposition in Seattle, Wash.
