The Hartford has named John J. Kinney chief claims officer and president of Heritage Holdings. In this role, Kinney will lead The Hartford’s property and casualty and group benefits claims operations and its more than 5,000 employees, reporting to Doug Elliot, president of Commercial Markets at The Hartford.
“John’s extensive experience and high level of expertise will be instrumental as he looks to build upon the outstanding performance of our claims organization and confront many of the company’s most complex challenges,” Elliot said. “Under John’s leadership, I am confident our claims team will be a differentiator for The Hartford and continue to provide customers with high-quality, compassionate service.”

His previous role at Heritage Holdings focused on complex claims, including asbestos, silica, environmental damage and other latent injury long tail claims.
Prior to joining The Hartford, Kinney held various legal positions in The Travelers Companies’ Special Liability Group, where he focused on the management of asbestos litigation. Kinney holds a J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law.
