Atlantic May See Its Next Storm Within a Week: Weather Watch

The Atlantic hurricane season continues to roll through its traditionally most active time of year without a storm, however there is a growing chance that may change soon. Two systems — one in the Caribbean and the other near Cabo Verde — have a 40% chance of becoming a storm in the next week.

On the other side of the world, Storm Yagi is strengthening as it makes its way to China. The storm has already killed at least 15 people in the Philippines and forced thousands to flee to safer ground.

Fire alerts: There are red flag fire warnings in Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, South Dakota and Nebraska for Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Heat: Excessive heat warnings are up across Southern California, the southern tip of Nevada and western and southern Arizona starting Wednesday. Tuesday’s temperature in Barstow, California will reach 102F (39C) and by Thursday and Friday it is forecast to reach 106F. Death Valley may get to 120F Friday.

Australia: Wind and rain is easing across southeastern Australia, but flooding continues in Tasmania, said Jonathan How, a meteorologist at the Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology. High pressure has anchored over the southeastern parts of the country, which has dried things out. A new front is coming on shore in the southwest.
