When something goes wrong at a wedding and a claim is filed, one of the most common reasons behind the snafu is not too surprising—someone likely wasn’t doing their job.
Vendor difficulties topped the list of wedding claims. Nearly half (45%) of wedding claims are due to wedding planners not completing their jobs, venues closing and photographers not showing up, according to a report from Travelers Insurance on the leading causes of paid wedding insurance claims in 2023.
Property damage was the next most prevalent claim, coming in at 18%. Reported damage included damaged tables and chairs, dance floor impairment and broken plates. Illness and injury was next on the list at 14%. Following that were weather-related issues (12%), and military deployment (6%). Last on the list was other potential incidents (5%). That category includes special wedding attire not arriving on time, or the ring bearer lost their rings.
Travelers used carrier claims data to compile the study.
