Louisiana Department of Insurance Fraud Unit investigators have shut down the insurance business of a New Orleans producer on felony theft violations in the amount of $250,000, Insurance Commissioner Robert Wooley announced.
Earlier in the week, Department of Insurance Fraud Unit investigators served Claire H. Garin, 42, former business address: 4421 Conlin St., Suite 101, Metairie, with a cease and desist order and summary suspension of her insurance license, which prohibits her from conducting any kind of insurance business in Louisiana.
The c&d states, in part, that Garin failed to account for or remit a total of $250,000 in the conduct of insurance-related business dealings between January 2002 and April 2004. It further states that she has pled guilty to 50 counts of felony theft. She was sentenced to eight years in prison, the sentence was suspended and she was placed on five years of active probation.
Department of Insurance records show that Garin has held a life and health license since 1990. The license was suspended by Thursday’s action, effective immediately.
