The Insurance Council of Texas (ICT) will host its 2006 Workers’ Compensation Conference in Austin on Sept. 20 at the Hyatt Regency.
Workers’ Compensation Commissioner Albert Betts will be the conference keynote speaker. Commissioner Betts will discuss the on-going efforts to implement the sweeping workers’ compensation reforms passed by the Texas Legislature in 2005.
Other featured speakers include Lee Ann Alexander, Vice President and Legislative Counsel for Liberty Mutual, Rick Levy, legal director for the Texas AFL-CIO, and David DePaolo, the editor-in-chief of the daily workers’ compensation newsletter, WorkCompCentral.
The conference’s afternoon session will feature Julie Shank, a recognized authority on the Texas workers’ compensation system and Stuart Colburn, a partner with the Dallas-based law firm Downs Stanford.
The conference will conclude with a panel discussion moderated by Mark Hanna, ICT’s manager of public affairs and membership. The panelists include: Norman Darwin, the Texas Public Injured Employee Counsel and head of the Office of Injured Employee Counsel; Richard S. Geiger, ICT’s General Counsel and of counsel to Thompson, Coe, Cousins & Irons; Steve Norwood, M.D., a physician and member of the Texas Medical Association and Texas Orthopedic Association; Sam McMurray, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company’s Administrator of Workers’ Compensation; Jeff Cunningham, D.C., a chiropractor and former member of the DWC’s Medical Quality Review Panel; and Jaelene Fayhee, Vice President of Public Affairs for Texas Mutual Insurance Company.
