La. Man Sentenced in FEMA Fraud Case

A Zachary, La., man has been sentenced on fraud charges related to a hurricane relief program.

Terry Watson, 40, was sentenced to two years probation, a $250 fine, $2,000 in restitution and 50 hours of community service.

Watson pleaded guilty in July to one count of making a false claim to the Federal Emergency Management Agency for expedited disaster assistance.

FEMA was giving $2,000 for immediate needs of food, shelter and clothing to people who were affected by hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

The number of people charged in the Middle District of Louisiana with violations related to hurricane disaster relief is 80.
