Arkansas will receive $1.9 million from the U.S. Department of Labor to create 127 temporary jobs to help with cleanup and recovery in connection with this year’s tornadoes and flooding.
Arkansas’ congressional delegation announced the grant June 19.
The federal money will also help provide food, clothes, shelter and other assistance for disaster victims.
Severe weather has caused at least 26 deaths in Arkansas this year, including tornadoes that killed 13 people on Feb. 5 and another twister outbreak that killed seven on May 2. In between was freezing weather, persistent rain and river flooding that damaged homes and has slowed farmers in their planting.
