The Louisiana Recovery Authority is urging homeowners who suspect they might have contaminated Chinese drywall in their homes to report the problems to the state.
A federal consumer product safety commission is asking each state to recount the incidents of drywall problems by Dec. 16. As of last week, 415 homeowners in Louisiana had reported they have the contaminated wallboard.
The LRA is taking information at
www.lra.louisiana.gov/drywallform or by phone at 1-866-684-1713.
Paul Rainwater, executive director of the LRA, says the data gathered by states could help make a case for federal aid for homeowners.
People who rebuilt their south Louisiana homes after Hurricane Katrina claim imported Chinese drywall emits sulfur, methane and other chemical compounds that have ruined homes and appliances and harmed residents’ health.
