A federal jury in Louisiana has convicted three men of plotting to kill a man and collect money on life insurance policies.
Thirty-two-year-old Jermaine Surtain was convicted of fatally shooting Treyor August on April 24, 2004, in New Orleans while August was a passenger in a van owned by 44-year-old David Samuels and driven by 36-year-old Charles Moss.
Samuels was convicted of charges he submitted fraudulent claims for life insurance policies taken out on August and paid Surtain and Moss for their roles in killing August.
Samuels faces a maximum sentence of 260 years in prison. Moss faces up to 35 years in prison. Surtain was convicted of charges punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
