A small and rare South Texas earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.6 has shaken homes outside San Antonio.
The epicenter of the Thursday morning quake was near Karnes City. The U.S. Geological Survey said it was the largest earthquake on record for the area, surpassing a magnitude-4.3 shock recorded in 1993.
No major damages or injuries were immediately reported.
The quake struck at 7:24 a.m. and some reported feeling faint tremors in San Antonio, about 50 miles north.
In January 2010, a magnitude-2.6 quake was recorded in the area, the last one on record.
