Meat giant Cargill says a northwest Arkansas plant is again producing ground turkey.
The Minnesota-based company said Monday that ground turkey production resumed at its Springdale plant after it improved safety measures in response to a salmonella outbreak this year. The outbreak left one person dead and prompted the recall of millions of pounds of turkey.
Cargill Inc. says it also recalled about 50 of the 130 workers who were laid off from the plant in October because the plant wasn’t producing ground turkey. That’s in addition to more than 70 workers who have already rejoined the company after the October layoff.
Cargill says it restarted one of four ground turkey production lines at the Springdale plant. The other three will go on line in the coming weeks.
