It will take an inventory before the loss can be calculated, but officials say burglars made off with a substantial amount from 70 freight train cars in Louisiana.
Jefferson Parish sheriff’s deputies told WDSU-TV that the Union Pacific Railroad train cars were discovered to have been illegally opened Tuesday night and boxes of various merchandise, ranging from electronics, clothing and shoes, were strewn about the cars.
Investigators said the seals to secure the doors had been cut.
When questioned, investigators say 22-year-old Chase White admitted to his involvement in the burglaries.
White was arrested and taken to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center. He faces charges of accessory to simple burglary, possession of stolen property, criminal trespassing and resisting arrest.
It could not be determined whether White has an attorney.
