A Louisiana auditor says a Lacombe-area recreation district went uninsured for a year despite paying a Slidell insurance agency $10,000 for a commercial and general liability policy.
The auditor says the St. Tammany Parish’s 4th Recreation District paid the Mike Neely Insurance Agency over $9,000 for a policy to run from Aug. 11, 2011 to Aug. 11, 2012, but the coverage was not provided.
Neely Insurance refunded the premium last week, 358 days after the recreation district filed a formal complaint with the state Department of Insurance.
The Times-Picayune reports the district paid the premium to renew the policy on Oct. 19, 2011.
Stacy Henry, the recreation district’s administrative assistant, said the payment to Neely was late because the insurance agency did not send a bill until Oct. 6, 2011.
