Arkansas officials say heavy rainfall has caused major water damage at Paragould City Hall.
Mayor Mike Gaskill says the damage has caused ceiling tiles and insulation to fall, and the building can’t be heated because of the damage. Gaskill says the city’s 911 call center is also at risk but that all equipment has been moved to other areas of City Hall not affected by the leaky roof.
The Paragould Daily Press reports that repairing the roof would cost about $79,500. The mayor says the roof has not had substantial maintenance in more than 16 years and that there’s room in the city’s 2014 budget for the repairs.
The Paragould City Council is expected to vote next week on whether to accept the bid to repair the roof.
