The National Weather Service will determine whether it was a tornado that caused damage to several buildings in the small East Texas town of Lovelady, destroying at least three mobile homes.
Lance Wood, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Houston, tells The Associated Press that inspectors visited the scene Monday to determine what caused the damage during a rainstorm late Sunday afternoon.
Houston County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy G. P. Shearer tells Lufkin television station KTRE that eight structures were damaged. There was also minor damage to Lovelady High School.
Shearer said a woman received lacerations to her face and arm when a tree fell into her mobile home.
Lovelady has about 600 residents and is some 100 miles north of Houston.
